CC&A: How did you become involved in cheerleading and, more specifically, Cheer LTD?
Gwen Holtsclaw, president of Cheer LTD: Cheerleading is something I’ve done from a very early age. I came up straight through the ranks just like everyone else did, from recreational cheerleading all the way up to my college squad.

When I graduated from college I was teaching high school, and at about the same time, the college I graduated from wanted to have a whole summer program of camps. They asked me to design the camp and administer it every summer for them, so I did. Because of that, it was a conflict of interest if I coached cheerleading, so I coached the high school dance team for about five years. Then when I had the opportunity to become the director of the news bureau at Methodist College, I left my teaching job and began coaching the cheerleaders.

I was the coach at Methodist; I coached there from 1978 to 1988. Remember, now, I’m running their summer camp, and it has actually grown to be a very big summer camp. We only did it one week of the year and we could only take 500 students. We ...more
